Musings of a Winter Wren

DUDE, WHO TOOTED?

I went for a chill nine mile run this morning and man, the city lakes are absolutely thick with Eurasian Milfoil. The carpets are woven so tight, one could walk on it. And boy howdy it stinks! It's not like that sweet organic smell of say, horse manure, no. It's the toxic smell of microbes partying into the wee hours.

It made my eyes water. I mean, phew. Gross.

Warbling, I suspect that in the scheme of things, eurasian milfoil has it's rank as an unfortunate introduction into numerous U.s. ecosystems. You have shown that you possess scientific knowledge and appreciation of the natural world. At the same time I sense a resignation to the process of environmental degradation. I'm in no way being critical, I'm just curious about how the world deals with the endless stream of information that seems to indicate that in aggregate we are past the point of no return. I know, sounds gloomy but I really don't dwell there. jcat

First off, I highly recommend Out of Eden: An Odyssey of Ecological Invasion. A good read, that.

I may sound resigned, but mostly I'm just venting. I guess I like to complain because a) it's funny and b) I often find the world I inhabit absolutely ABSURD. How else do I respond? If I were a true pessimist, I'd do something else for work. Something that makes more money.

I'm going to read the book, thanks. And if I could be so forward, to say, I like the way you think, I think. jcat

Cool, On the comments, don't bother, I've got the restriction thing on. When I started with the politics I got strange super partisan stuff that wasn't worth reading. I don't check it any more.jcat
